Joining
Keeping in step with the Scriptures and the historic Christian Church, Intown is comprised on Sunday morning of visitors, regular attendees, and members. This is not at all to distinguish between levels of faith or spirituality, but simply to acknowledge what is actually true of our congregation. We are a group of worshippers from a variety of backgrounds, faith traditions, denominations, and stages in our spiritual journey. Some of us are simply exploring who Jesus is, some are Christians but are still investigating and considering Intown, and others are not only followers of Christ but have chosen to commit themselves to his work at Intown and have accordingly joined as members.
If you are interested in joining the Church, it’s a pretty straight-forward process. Presuming you’ve arrived at the place where you consider Intown “your church”, if you haven’t done so already, we’ll ask you to take the “Intro to Intown” class. This will familiarize you more fully with our theological commitments, our philosophy of ministry, and the places in which you can serve in our church and city. After that you’ll meet with two of the elders where they’ll chat with you about your spiritual journey, your understanding of the Gospel, and your expectations for membership. Finally, you’ll join Intown publicly on a Sunday morning (often with other people). This involves baptism if you’ve never been baptized before and taking the vows of membership which were discussed in the Intro to Intown class and your membership interview.
“Intro to Intown” classes run at various times throughout the year and you can set up an interview just about any Sunday. Please email Brian at brian@intownchurch.com for more information or to get the process started. Also, you can download a copy of our Intro to Intown class materials here.
