Season of Prayer

Throughout Scripture, and the history of the Church, the people of God have routinely held seasons of prayer, engaging Him, asking Him to act on their behalf, and also to align their wills more fully with His.

From the prayers of David recorded in the Psalms to the pleading of Abraham, Moses, Hezekiah, Paul and even Jesus himself, the Scriptural model of prayer is an open-handed tenacity: a recognition that our view is limited, though our needs and desires are real, and God’s power to intervene is needed.

Throughout the ages as God’s people have gathered corporately to plead with him for certain outcomes, the answers they received were not always what they expected, but the change that comes only through the Holy Spirit results from a renewed faith and reliance upon the Triune God.

This year marks Intown’s tenth anniversary, and we believe that God still has much to do in and through us to reach the city of Portland along with the rest of his Church here. As we continue through a sustained season of financial uncertainty, both for individuals and families, as well as for Intown corporately, it is our desire to respond as God’s people have always responded to uncertainty: through prayer.

For the next ten weeks we will enter a season of prayer, asking for God’s blessings to pour out on Intown, for a clarity of mission and unity of spirit within our congregation. This season of prayer will be facilitated through our regular community groups that meet throughout the city. If you don’t yet regularly attend a community group at Intown and would like to join one for this season of prayer, contact Steve Hall at steve@intownchurch.com for more information about groups meeting in your area.

We invite you to join us as we, with one voice, call out to our generous King for provision.
