Matthew Curl, Director of Music and The Arts | matthew@intownchurch.com
Matthew Henry Curl is the Music Director/Chief Musician at Intown Church. He has lived in Portland since 1999 and currently resides in the southwest area of town with his wife, Jami, and their son, Theo. He is the lead singer of two local bands, Jonah and Hello Morning, and co-owns and operates a bakery in northwest Portland called Saint Cupcake.
Since 2002, Matthew has utilized his position as music director at Intown Church in Portland to bring new and vibrant arrangements of old hymns and psalms to the worship services there. Finding the bulk of contemporary Christian praise music to be often times bland and repetitive, lacking in substance, Matthew has challenged himself and his church to create and worship with a new music, using ancient texts that resound with poignancy and depth. Matthew has recorded and released to albums of this new music, Intown Psalms (2004), and Intown Communion: Vol. I (2009). The end goal of arranging and recording this music is to refresh old texts with new and timeless tunes that can be easily sung by a congregation. A blend of pop and acoustic driven folk, these arrangements beautifully capture the essence of the words and breathe new life into worship.

The Deacons are the primary arm of service and mercy for the church. They too are elected by the congregation and are tasked primarily with caring for needs inside and outside of the congregation. If you or someone you know is in need, please let us know at the address above.
