Our Vision

God Calls Us through the Gospel to Be the Church in and for the World.

Our Purpose
In short, it is to bring the resources of the Christian Gospel (truth, worship, sacraments, community, mission) to bear upon our ourselves and the City of Portland with the intention of bringing forth changed lives, relationships, and neighborhoods.

Our Message
The classic Gospel message – that God is at work reconciling the whole world to himself. This includes the proclamation that humans are estranged from God by their own choosing, but that God invites them back into his embrace in the person of his son Jesus. But, the Gospel is not only “good news” about individual salvation, but about the restoration of the whole world. Jesus came to earth not simply for the purpose of forgiveness of sin, but to inaugurate a whole new world where love, justice, beauty, and peace could begin to replace disorder, oppression, violence and despair. He calls his church to work for these values now in the present world with the promise that one day all things would be set right – one day he himself would return to fully consummate his Kingdom.

Our Hope
We hope that Intown would be a community which cultivates a vision of the future that bears upon our present, one that fundamentally changes our relationships, workplaces, neighborhoods, urban spaces, playgrounds, and city. This will happen through worship, through gatherings in homes, through founding new churches, and through the individuals who comprise Intown Church, intentionally caring for their neighbors in the places in which they live.
